New Heights Charter School of Brockton recently completed its fifth annual educational service trip to Puerto Plata, a province in the Dominican Republic. This year, 13 of our rising high school juniors and seniors joined the Lorraine's Leaders Program at Regis College for four weeks. They spent the first two weeks commuting from New Heights to Regis College in Weston, Mass., and the final two weeks living on campus, experiencing college life firsthand. Regis established the Lorraine’s Leaders program in memory of Lorraine DeStefano Tegan, Class of 1963. The program recognizes and supports rising high school juniors and seniors from New Heights Charter School of Brockton who aspire to pursue a college degree as first-generation students, particularly those interested in healthcare or the sciences. Per New Heights tradition, the entire school lined the hallways, creating an unforgettable tunnel of applause, high-fives, and pure joy.
