This year, 13 of our rising high school juniors and seniors joined the Lorraine’s Leaders Program at Regis College for four weeks. They spent the first two weeks commuting from New Heights to Regis College in Weston, Mass., and the final two weeks living on campus, experiencing college life firsthand.

Regis established the Lorraine’s Leaders program in memory of Lorraine DeStefano Tegan, Class of 1963. The program recognizes and supports rising high school juniors and seniors from New Heights Charter School of Brockton who aspire to pursue a college degree as first-generation students, particularly those interested in healthcare or the sciences.

The program aims to:

• Empower students with the knowledge and tools needed for college acceptance.
• Provide intensive college counseling and an immersive campus experience where students engage in experiential labs, earn college credit, and prepare for higher education.

This all-inclusive academic initiative covers daily transportation to and from New Heights Charter School of Brockton, dedicated college coaching, and a full two-week residential stay on Regis’ Weston campus (including the weekend). During their time on campus, students continue their daily coursework and lab schedules while fully immersing themselves in campus life—including academics, dining, community living, and athletics.

For four years, this program has provided life-changing academic experiences to help our students succeed on their college journeys. Almost ten years ago, we promised our students and their families that they would go to college, and partners like Regis College help make our mission a reality. We look forward to continuing our work with all of our partners to make higher education an attainable goal for every student.
