Charter public schools are governed by the same laws and rules as district public schools. By law, charter schools are public schools that are tuition-free and must be open to all students. Admission is determined by a random lottery, and there are no entrance exams or admission requirements. Charter public schools are overseen by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and are required to meet rigorous academic, financial, and operational standards.
Any Brockton, Randolph, or Taunton student who wishes to attend New Heights and is in the proper grade is eligible to submit an enrollment form. We continually accept enrollment forms for students in Grades 6-12. If applicants outnumber available seats, students are chosen by lottery, which is usually held in early March. There are no admission requirements, or screening of applicants. Since New Heights is a public school, all students from all backgrounds and all abilities are welcome.
Early College High Schools, which have been around for more than 40 years, establish relationships with colleges and universities to prepare ALL their students to take college classes for free while still in high school.
Our Early College Design model introduces students to the benefits – and demands – of college, and instills the readiness skills necessary for their success.
New Heights is partnered with Massasoit Community College and Bridgewater State University (BSU) to provide college courses to our students.
- The school day begins at 7:40 and ends at 3:55pm.
- We offer an accelerated curriculum. Students take two periods of English and two periods of math, in addition to science, history and an elective (gym, health, or world languages).
- Middle schoolers take two classes in Math and English, History and Science courses, and electives In 9th grade, they take college prep courses to develop college-ready skills. In 10th grade, students who are ready can take two college-level courses in English. In 11th and 12 grade, eligible students will leave the New Heights campus for part of the week to attend college full-time at Massasoit Community College.
We currently offer Dance, Arts and Crafts, Movie and book Club, and Drum. In addition, New Heights offers a variety of after-school programming from 3:55 to 5 PM, including enrichment activities and academic tutoring, such as Math and ELA Tutoring, Tutoring for High School and Early College students, and ESL Tutoring.
