Preparing students for college means they need to see and feel the experience firsthand. Every year, New Heights Charter School of Brockton takes its juniors on college tours across the country to explore possibilities beyond their home state.
These Historically Black Colleges and Universities tours provide students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the commitment and achievements of African Americans in higher education. We want our scholars to make informed decisions and know that college is not a distant dream for there are universities eagerly waiting to welcome them to their campuses. The Texas-Louisiana trip marked the second and final HBCU tour of the 2025-2026 academic year.
During this seven-day journey, our scholars visited the following outstanding higher education institutions: University of Houston, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Paul Quinn College, Grambling State University, Southern University at Shreveport, and Southern University at New Orleans.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these institutions for opening their doors and welcoming our students. These tours are deeply impactful. Our students returned with a newfound understanding of the endless possibilities available to them.
We also thank our academic team, staff, and teachers. Your unmatched commitment to instilling college readiness in our students’ daily lives makes this possible.
We look forward to expanding our college tour to our scholars as they prepare to make decisions within a year from now to enroll in college.
Our mission is to equip our students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in college.
