Welcome to New Heights 2018-19 Letter

Dear Families,

I want to welcome all of you to the start of the 2018-2019 School Year. So much has taken place over the summer months, and we are excited about welcoming you to join our Middle and High school settings. As many of you know, Meredith Morrison (HS) and Shana Silva (MS) will serve as our two Principals, and Janice Manning will be our new Assistant Executive Director in charge of Operations & Human Resources. We have all spent the entire summer preparing for our 1stday of school on September 5th.

Please remember that our 1st3 days of school will begin at 7:40am and conclude at 1:00pm. There are a few things that you will need to know for this upcoming school year.

  • All High School and 6thgrade students will now have a snack period built into their school day. The 6thgrade snack period will take place in the afternoon since they eat lunch so early and the HS students will be allowed to eat a snack in the morning because they eat lunch so late.
  • All students are allowed to bring clear bottles filled with water to school every day. We do sell bottles at our school, but families can purchase them anywhere as long as they are clear. Students are allowed to bring other drinks for their lunches, but they must be carried in their school bags until they reach the cafeteria.
  • All snacks should be packaged as a single serving, and we ask that students bring items that won’t make too much of a mess. Please note that candy is not allowed during snack time and gum is not permitted on school grounds.

Your support will enable us to keep a clean and healthy environment in our building. In addition, we are also asking that students not bring open beverages into school (other than water) at any time. Coffee and frozen drinks have posed many challenges for us in the past, and we are asking that these types of beverages be consumed prior to entering our building or our buses. We realize that this may or may not be popular for students, but we feel strongly that these policies will benefit our school community.

Please remember that our dress code has changed from last year, so please reference our website prior to purchasing new clothes. All clothes from last year are still allowed, but our options have expanded. L&M Bargain Store carries our full line of clothing, but we do sell black + white polo shirts here at the school for $15. We look forward to seeing you and your children in just a few days, and we hope that you enjoy your last few days of summer.

Sincerely,

Omari Walker

Executive Director
