OPPORTUNITIES FOR GETTING INVOLVED

At New Heights, teachers and families work as a team. We maintain open lines of communication between parents and teachers, including regular parent meetings and home visits. We host regular parent workshops and have an active community spirit, including a variety of engaging social events, such as multicultural night, athletic banquets, and student award ceremonies.

FAMILY FORUMS

Families are invited to meet with our Executive Director once a month to discuss important school information and updates. We also host training on student information system access.

OPEN HOUSES AND CONFERENCES

Twice a year, we open our doors to families to meet teachers, tour the school, and visit classrooms. We also hold Parent-Teacher Conferences twice a year for one-to-one conversations between parents/guardians and teachers.

STUDENT AWARD CEREMONIES

At the end of each quarter, we celebrate our scholars’ academic achievements and honor roll. Scholars are awarded a certificate and breakfast and/or gift card.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Join us for a variety of engaging events to interact with other NHCSB families. They include multicultural night – where families eat, dance, and engage in hands-on learning about the different cultures that make up our community – and family game night – where families come to NHCSB to have dinner and play board games together.

GRADUATION

We see school transitions as an important rite of passage for our students. Our 8th grade Step-Up Ceremony celebrates the transition between middle school and high school. Our High School Graduation celebrates the conferral of a NHCSB high school diploma and Associate’s Degree from Massasoit Community College, or a minimum of 12 college credits.

Please check our Newsletter tab for updates and information on upcoming events and opportunities for involvement.

Every five years, per state law, charter schools undergo a rigorous written evaluation and site visit protocol by experts in the field of education. The outcome of this evaluation; which looks at finances, curriculum, student outcomes, and instruction to name a few areas, is a determination about the charter school’s ability to continue operation for an additional five years. New Heights was reviewed this spring at the conclusion of our fifth year of operation and we are proud to share that not only was our charter renewed, it was renewed without and conditions or areas of improvement.

Ms. Fernandes and Ms. Fontes have been committed to fostering and developing formal relationships with four-year institutions to create seamless pathways for our scholars to post-secondary institutions. Formal MOUs can vary from institution to institution, but the ultimate objective is to encourage persistence in college after graduation from NHCSB. Our first formal partnership is with Nichols College! New Heights Charter School and Nichols College recognize that, for many students, a bachelor’s degree is an important step to realizing a life of maximum earning power. NHCSB and Nichols College share the objectives of helping students reduce the time and expense to attain a bachelor’s degree for NHCSB scholars and providing access to dynamic and transformational business and leadership education for NHCSB students at Nichols College. This Agreement is formed to enable a seamless pathway for New Heights Charter School graduates to Nichols College through:

• An accelerated acceptance process for New Heights Charter School students applying to Nichols College
• A clear tuition rate for New Heights Charter School students depending on their GPA and the number of college credits earned
• A credit transfer policy whereby all (up to 62) college level credits earned while enrolled at New Heights will be accepted.
